About JWT Decoder & Debugger
What is a JSON Web Token (JWT)?
JSON Web Token (JWT) is an open standard (RFC 7519) that defines a compact and self-contained way for securely transmitting information between parties as a JSON object. It is universally used in modern web engineering for single-sign-on (SSO), stateless user session verification, and API authorization.
Anatomy of a JWT
A standard JWT consists of three parts separated by dots (`.`):
1. Header: Identifies the signing algorithm (e.g. HS256, RS256, ES256) and the token type (usually `JWT`).
2. Payload: Contains the claims — key-value statements about an entity (such as user ID, user roles, username) along with standard timestamps:
3. Signature: Generated by taking the encoded header, encoded payload, and signing them with a private secret key or public/private keypair.
Why Use a Client-Side JWT Inspector?
Many public JWT decoders transmit tokens to backend logging endpoints, which risks exposing live session tokens, authorization claims, or confidential user IDs. ZORIQ JWT Inspector decodes everything directly in your browser memory via Base64URL parsing, guaranteeing that your auth credentials never touch any network server.
